- Alex is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya practicing within East Africa with a bias for Kenya and Uganda. Alex is an experienced litigant handling both contentious and non-contentious matters. Alex has dealt with complex criminal and civil litigation matters involving labour disputes, land disputes and constitutional rights violations.
- In the dispute resolution practice, He has been a formidable lawyer in prosecuting and defending employment claims encompassing violation of labour rights and procedural impropriety in the employee separation process. He has also successfully defended various clients facing prosecution both at the Subordinate Courts and Superior Courts. Alex has a knack for litigating complex land disputes with a bias for the coastal region of Kenya where he has represented settlers, squatters and vulnerable communities in actions for recovery of land.
- Apart from being a litigant, Alex has received training on a broad range of transaction advisory services in Infrastructure, Public Private Partnerships (PPPs) Projects, and Commercial Contracts focusing on Project Management and Financing. He has extensive experience in providing project advisory services for renewable energy projects targeted at social impact investment and unlocking value add for consumers in terms of energy savings. Alex has assisted start-ups in the renewable energy space to develop bankable projects and procure grant financing with Development Finance Institutions (DFIs).
- Alex holds a Bachelor of Laws LL.B (Hons) from the University of Nairobi and a Post Graduate Diploma from the Kenya School of Law. He is currently pursuing a Master of Laws (LL.M) in Corporate Law from the University of South Wales, United Kingdom.
Alex’s achievements include:
- Played a significant role in the LAPSSET legal advisory project whose scope entailed reviewing and updating the LAPSSET feasibility studies.
- Contract review and advisory in the feasibility phase of a climate smart integrated agricultural project with a projected capital investment input of USD 260 million.
- Currently advising a renewable energy start-up company on the set up and scale up of solar powered containerized refrigerators to be installed in Burma Market, Nairobi City County.
- Currently representing wildlife conservancy members in a protracted board elections dispute.
- Currently representing a general labourer in a work injury claim dispute against a Chinese Contractor.
- Successfully represented a Chinese Company at the Tax Appeals Tribunal on a taxation dispute that was eventually arbitrated and resolved.
- Currently representing a software company providing enterprise resource planning solutions in an arbitral tribunal presiding over a dispute concerning loss of SACCO funds.
- Currently representing various clients in malicious prosecution claims against the State.
- Currently prosecuting various criminal litigation matters & land dispute matters in the Magistrates’ Courts, Superior Courts, and the Environment and Land Court.
- Advised and provided legal due diligence services for a pension fund on proposed investment of 20,000,000 USD in a 1050MW Power Plant Project.
- Part of a team of PPP Legal experts in the review of Project Agreements for the proposed 140 MW Olkaria VII power plant PPP Project.
- Provision of legal advisory services to GIZ Energy Kenya on the development of a subsector analysis report on Commercial and Industrial Solar PV projects development in Kenya; including being Lead Legal Expert in reviewing the Energy Act 2019 in a Webinar hosted by GIZ Energy Kenya.
